Qur’an Tajweed

The great beauty of the holy Quran goes far beyond the stories of creation and the laws set out by God. The Quran also exists to preserve and guide the Arabic language, the language that Allah used to send His revelations to the Prophet Muhammad). A Muslim who studies the Quran will come away with a far better understanding of the Arabic language and its nuances.

One of the most important nuances is that of Tajweed, the correct pronunciation of Arabic terms. Those who learn how to read the Quran with Tajweed pronunciation can articulate the Arabic words in their proper manner. Tajweed means “to make better.” This Tajweed Quran course is designed to teach Tajweed rules from a theoretical and practical perspective. Students are given regular exercises and assignments to make sure they understand the material in full.

Tajweed should not be considered a mere matter of dialect or accents. It encompasses many important properties of the holy text — including the timing of syllables, the clarity of expressions, and how individual letters change the delivery of a word. Finally, Tajweed emphasizes the importance of a personal and spiritual connection to the text of the Quran, understanding the verses in which a Muslim asks God for protection, mercy, wisdom or guidance, to grow a stronger connection with God by understanding His explicit words.

About this course

Tajweed for beginners focuses on the accurate recitation of the Quran. Like all aspects of Quranic study, students who learn the Quran with Tajweed face a task of dedication and commitment. The student who learns Tajweed must understand the complexities of Quranic verse as well as the challenges of proper pronunciation in each part of the mouth. To learn Tajweed is to become a better Muslim, able to understand the precise language of the Quran without errors or mispronunciations, so that you can be a leader in your community. Ultimately, the goal is to recite the Quran in a matter identical to the speech Prophet Muhammad would have used within the early Islamic community centuries ago, perfecting the classical Arabic language that serves as the bedrock of Islam.

Prerequisites

To learn the Quran with Tajweed pronunciation, a student must first master the basic study of the Quran. A student who begins a Tajweed course without a firm comprehension of the Quranic structure, verse and language will struggle to be able to articulate the proper pronunciation. Students must also have an advanced knowledge of Arabic so that they will not be confused about specific facets of pronunciation and word choice — since the study of Tajweed dives deep into the language structure of Arabic and the differences (some small and some large) among individual words and letters.
